Agricultural shows are a natural place for conversations about the land.
The Foster & District Agricultural Show once again brought the South Gippsland community together for a day of livestock, local produce, and country hospitality. Among the many stalls and displays, we were pleased to be part of the action, sharing a space with Strzelecki Koala Action Group and Watch for Wildlife, and set up nearby to South Gippsland Landcare Network and Corner Inlet Landcare Group.
It was a pleasure to meet so many members of the community throughout the day. Visitors stopped by to learn more about our work and to explore opportunities to connect with nature across the Prom Coast and the Strzelecki Ranges. Our stall also offered a chance to browse and purchase our guidebooks, and many people enjoyed taking home resources to learn more about the landscapes and wildlife of our region.
Younger visitors had plenty to explore as well. Kids were drawn to our wildlife resources, including scat identification charts, information about living alongside wildlife, and a collection of fun facts about one of our local legends, the Strzelecki koala.
Agricultural shows are a natural place for conversations about the land. Farming and conservation are often spoken about separately, but in reality they are closely connected. Both depend on the same foundations: healthy soils, clean water, and landscapes that function well ecologically. The agricultural sector plays a central role in the long term ecological health of the region, and events like the Foster Show provide a valuable opportunity for these shared interests to meet.
For Prom Coast Ecolink, it was a privilege to be part of such a well-loved community event and to connect with people in a place that celebrates the region’s agricultural heritage. We look forward to continuing these conversations and working together to care for the landscapes we all share.
