PCEL founder Gary featured in issue #32 issue of Gippslandia Magazine


In May of this year, we said goodbye to Gary Wallis – Fish Creek local, field geologist, teacher, scientific consultant, farmer, rock specialist, lyrebird enthusiast and founding member of our group.


Gary was honoured in the September issue of Gippslandia in a piece by PCEL chair Anda Banikos. The team behind Prom Coast Ecolink continue to extend their thoughts to Gary’s family during this difficult time.


Gary first conceived the idea of a South Gippsland biolink network 40 years ago, originally named the Lyrebird Link, to protect the remnant Superb Lyrebird population. His vision will continue through our work as we advocate at all levels for the sustainable and flourishing coexistence of agriculture, tourism and nature in our region.


“Gary could see the broader potential for the region to be environmentally robust in tandem with productive farming. It was a vision where economic and ecological wealth would flow from farmland protected and enhanced by adjoining vegetation” .
