Anda attended the Koalathon fundraiser in Melbourne, held by the Strzelecki Koala ActionTeam
On March 30 Anda attended the first Koalathon hosted by the Strzelecki Koala Action Team (SKAT)Â to raise much-needed funds and awareness of the Strzelecki Koala.
Â
Strzelecki Koalas are our local hero (check out this South Gippsland Koala Map) and the most important koala population remaining in Victoria and South Australia. This is because they are a direct descendent from the original Victorian koala gene pool, unlike all other koala populations throughout VIC and SA which are the result of translocations from a handful of animals sent to French Island in the late 19th century.
Â
They may very well hold the key for the survival of the species in Australia and SKAT are working directly to save them from extinction. The Koalathon had over 50 koala lovers walk, ride, and run for koalas—including our Chair, Anda Banikos—and raised over $7,000!
